The EMAD comes with 2 dampening rings, each of which affects the head's sound and pedal response. This external system not only maximizes natural attack characteristics and offers tremendous dynamic range (even at low dynamic levels where other damping systems fall short), it also allows quick, easy adjustments - without having to remove the head from the drum. This unique feature is extremely valuable, especially during recording sessions.
Feature:
The bass drum has two dampening rings for the batter head. I like the thinner dampening ring for recording and the thicker ring for live application. If you want a more open sound, you can entirely remove any dampening ring at any given time.
Quality:
So far, I've banged the heck out of this head for a month and it shows little sign of wear or tear.

This head improved the sound of my bass drum by at least 70%. I've played drums for over 20 years now and cannot belive that this drumhead has single-handedly been the best investment for sound quality I've made in my kit for the last 10 years. I've recorded with this head in my home studio and played gigs and let me say that NOTHING compares to the awesome sound that this head will give your bass drum. You could probably put this head on a trash can and make it sound like gold. Get this head if you're even remotely thinking about it. It's worth three times as much money.
