Crate BT50 Bass Combo Amplifier (50 Watts, 1x12 in.)
The BT50 features 2 different channels: a distortion channel, featuring Crate's exclusive Shape control for quick and easy access to the tone you need, and a clean channel with a 4-band rotary EQ. Another unique and valuable feature of this amplifier is the Octave control. This feature electronically creates a second signal that is one octave lower than the original signal. An active electronic tuner, conveniently located on top of the amplifier, allows you to get in tune and stay in tune "on the fly." Front panel jacks are provided for connecting a CD player and a pair of headphones, thereby optimizing your practice time.
Feature: It has the distortion channel but I don't really mess with it. I play country, country rock and classic rock so I have no real need for distortion. The built in tuner is all right.
Quality: I take care of my equipment but it seems to be durable.
Value: Good price for this size of amp.
Desirability: I don't think it's sexy but I like the looks. I like the metal grate on front that helps protect the speaker.
Sound: I haven't really cranked the amp but it does have good sound. I play an Ibanez SRX390 and a BTB400-QM through it and it sounds fine. I've only had it turned up to about 5 and it seemed to be strong, both high and low. From what I can tell it does have power and volume for an amp this size.
Ease of Use: Just mess around with the controls on the amp and on your bass and you can find the right sound. It comes with a chart that gives you a rough idea of of how the settings should be for rock, country, jazz, etc.
Support: I'll just give it an 8, I haven't needed to contact them yet.
Overall: It's easy to haul around for jam sessions. It sound good for the price. When it's time to upgrade I'll check out some Crates but I'm also going to try Ampeg and Fender.
